Sounds like a good thing. Sure you need to pay...but that is up to you. What do you think? Have you tried it?

I use it for a lot of different websites I own and it brings a steady bit of traffic but it can get pricey depending on how much traffic you want and what keyword you are using.

Make sure you spend the time to do your keyword research and you should see better results. It is also wise to use Google Analytics on your site so you can see which keywords are actually converting and which ones are not. It will save you money on the keywords that your paying for, but are not sticking around your site enough to bring you sales/conversions, etc

If you want to succeed with Adwords, you need to take of these things:

Keywords
Ad Text
Landing Pages
Analysis

The more you concentrate on a single item the more you move towards throing your money in drains.

I have used it and with great success. I bought a "beginner" type package where it would cost me the least amount of money and i did pretty well with it.

Yeah adwords is good but these days it's just become too expensive even for long tail keywords. Lot of competition....

apart from Google adword which is the best of that type

There is a thing called adbrite where you can buy advertising things on sites. You can find things that are specific to your niche and get a lot of hits.

Yep. It's great if used properly. But I would suggest that anyone that try this does a little research and only picks sites very similar to their own.
