Default Configuring NFS on FREENAS machine? - 10-31-2008, 06:09 AM

Anyone heard about FreeNas version? I had installed the latest version and I configured my ip address and 172.16.0.100 as subnetmask gateway. I could access across the LAN browser through http:\\172.16.0.100. It open authenticated windows and asks for password and login details. I want to know how can I configure NFS on FreeNAS box. It would be very helpful if anyone from here can help me from this.

Default Set the NFS first - 11-03-2008, 02:30 PM

First let me tell briefly about NFS and FREENAS. NFS stands for Network File System, and it is used to share an entire filesystem via a network. For setting up NFS we will need to have our network already up and running. Compiling a Kernel is also important in this network. Accessing root to box when we are setting NFS is also important. Contact me for further doubt in Kernel configuration.

Default FreeNAS is an open source software - 11-05-2008, 05:31 PM

FreeNAS is an open source popular software appliance package that can turn a computer into a NAS appliance, or in easier terms a file server. There are 4 steps for adding storage to the FreeNAS server.

1. The FreeNAS server is "told" about a physical hard disk.

2. This disk is formatted.

3. The resulting storage space is mounted and made available internally.

4. The mounted storage space is made available on the network via services like CIFS and NFS.

Let me know if you need further assistance.
